Efficient Vaccination Strategies in a Social Network with Individual Mobility
نویسنده
چکیده
Vaccination is a primary means used to control infectious diseases. Various epidemic models have been developed to find efficient vaccination strategies. However, few models and vaccination strategies have explicitly taken individual mobility into consideration. New models and vaccination strategies are needed for today’s highly mobile society. This paper presents an individual-based epidemic model that allows individuals to travel between communities. Based on such a model, three vaccination strategies are investigated, including the travel-based, contact-based, and random vaccination strategies. The simulation results show that intercommunity travel would be a major consideration for designing vaccination strategy. The contact-based vaccination strategy is preferable in a population with a large number of intercommunity travelers, for instance the metropolitan areas. The travel-based vaccination strategy is preferable in a population with a small number of inter-community travelers, such as the rural areas. From a spatial perspective, the travel-based vaccination strategy efficiently confines the spatial spread of diseases, thus minimizing affected areas. This research provides useful insights into the community-based planning for infectious disease control.

Network Parameters Evaluation in Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET) Routing Protocols for Efficient Message Delivery in City Environment
Abstract- Efficient message delivery in city environment is required to ensure driver’s safety and passenger’s comfortability. In cities of developed nations, routing of data in vehicular Ad hoc Network (VANET) faces many challenges such as radio obstacles, mobility constraints and uneven nodes distribution. These factors primarily makes communication between vehicles complex. To overcome and t...
متن کاملMiddle Class Downward Mobility in the Socio-Physical Space in Tehran
Social mobility takes shape of a physical aspect which makes it possible to translate downward mobility in the physical space. Huge inflation and decrease of purchasing power during the recent years have led to downward mobility of middle class in Iran. Various facets of decrease in physical and social space have to be studied. For this purpose, 20 cases who had experienced such situation have ...
متن کاملEfficient vaccination strategies for epidemic control using network information
Background: Social and contact networks affect both epidemic spread and intervention implementation. Network-based interventions are most powerful when the full network structure is known. However, in practice, resource constraints require decisions to be made based on partial network information. We investigated how the effectiveness of network-based vaccination schemes varied based on the acc...
متن کاملDisease Containment Strategies based on Mobility and Information Dissemination
Human mobility and social structure are at the basis of disease spreading. Disease containment strategies are usually devised from coarse-grained assumptions about human mobility. Cellular networks data, however, provides finer-grained information, not only about how people move, but also about how they communicate. In this paper we analyze the behavior of a large number of individuals in Ivory...
متن کاملEffective vaccination strategies for realistic social networks
We consider the effectiveness of targeted vaccination at preventing the spread of infectious disease in a realistic social network. We compare vaccination strategies based on no information (random vaccination) to complete information (PageRank) about the network. The most effective strategy we find is to vaccinate those people with the most unvaccinated contacts. However, this strategy require...
